Rise: Madguard
Act 1; Scene 1
Act 1; Scene 1
The old Immortal prison facility was all but abandoned right now. The world was being evacuated, and prisoners were not the first priority. Coming from seemingly out of nowhere, giant monsters the size of buildings and sometimes even as large as cities themselves, the Beyonders were attacking the Immortal homeworld, Automation. No one cared if the forsaken husks of Immortal prisoners within, and no sane person would try to rescue them when the entire planet was soon to be all but destroyed.
Luckily, the Madguard were not named for their sanity.
The entire facility was shaking as the world outside raged with battle. One person was moving around inside, but unlike the massive Immortals this place was made by and created contain, the figure was simply a human, easily getting through cracks and corners where an Immortal would get stuck. Her pale while skin and dark black and green attire would might have drawn attention should the place have been populated, but she wasn't particularly worried about being spotted at the moment. Rather, she was sprinting towards the lower depths of the facility for what might be her only window to get in and out alive.
Her sprint ended when she had finally reached solitary confinement. She glared at the massive steel doors that held her from her goal. The sirens were already blaring throughout the facility. While the attack on the planet provided distraction from the guards, the facility was still on full lockdown, and her size advantage could only get her so far.
A voice came over her ear piece. "Viper! Beyonders are six miles away from your position, and are continuing their high speed."
She sneered, and pulled out one of the various vials she kept on her belt, containing a sickly green liquid.
"Well I take it I can't spend any time finding a password."
The woman named viper pulled out a syringe and began to use it with the liquid in the vile to start cutting through the steel door. She grit her teeth after awhile. Her acid had cut through steel like paper easily, but unfortunately the paper was very very thick.
"Five miles away."
"I don't suppose your magic can help me out here?"
"Not from this distance, I'm still keeping the escape route open."
"Damn it Wizard, we don't have time for this! I'm cutting through it as fast as I can."
"Four mi-zzzzzzzzz"
The communication cut off as the facility shook even more violently. The sound of steel bending under the force of outside battle caused Viper to cover her ears for a short while. As soon as she could stop cringing to look up again, she noticed that the top of the doors had bent enough to provide a hole large enough for her to jump through. Viper grinned and quickly threw a second vial of liquid up there, though as the glass cracked, instead of the hissing of acid eating steel, the contents of the vial began to drip down the doorway. Without any hesitation the woman sprinted towards the slick she had created, and as soon as her foot connected to the vertical door, she could feel the friction of it holding her in place. Viper continued her sprint up the doors until she reached the top, where she could stare down into the solitary cells. She slid down the quickly into the room, gazing at the binary code that labled every dormant prisoner.
With a deep breath, Viper pulled one more device from her coat, a small tracker resembling an old radio. It crackled as she pointed it towards each door, picking up unique radio interferance from the systems of Immortals. It was subtle, but every single Immortal was connected somehow, save for a very unique few who have been cut off from the collective subconcious of their race.
As soon as the crackling stopped in front of one door, Viper looked up. It had a clear label that meant it had to be occupied. But according to the waves given off, there was nobody inside.
Viper tapped on her earpiece again. "Wizard. I found him. How am I on time?"
While there was absolutely no response from her companion, once again the rumbling from outside intensified. That was a clear enough signal for her.
Viper looked up at the terminal by the door, which was no less than ten feet off of the ground to accomidate the immortals. Once more Viper used another vile to give her a surface which she could reach the terminal with. At the top of her climb, she looked over the screen and pulled a small needle-like device from her pocket. With no further time to think about it, she shoved it through the screen into the system.
The screen went blank.
There was a long moment where nothing happened.
Suddenly, the cracked screen began to flash different colors spark violently, knocking Viber back onto the ground as soon even the sirens turned off. One by one, she saw every single system around her shut off, leaving her in pitch black darkness.
She looked back at the screen, it trying its best to display a word which seemed to grow more and more corrupted the longer it stayed on screen.
Viper stared until the screen went blank again, and then suddenly everything came back on. The Sirens, the lights, and, naturally
All of the incarcerated Immortals.
The shaking got worse as not only were there Beyonders above the facility, every single cell in solitary confinement was getting banged against and would likely get knocked down at any time. Viper didn't have time to worry about that as sheran back towards the door she was working on beforehand. It was the first to be successfully ripped open as two massive claw like hands tore through it, each burning red with fire. The Immortal who stepped out of the cell was pure black, and was covered in rusted chains as it sat still within its cell for nearly two centuries.
Viper looked up at the towering Immortal and grinned, crossing her arms.
"Hello Maalik. The Madguard has finally assembled. Breaking out of an immortal prison won't be so hard the second time, huh?
The piercing red eyes of mech grew with intensity as the walls continued to bend and break around them.
"No. It shall not."
