Soooo I figured since I'm not the only person who plays Elite Dangerous (or its expansion/season pass 'Horizons'), I ought to make a topic both for discussion of the game, updates on in-game news, and the sharing of piloting tales from across the Milky Way.
At any rate, I suppose I ought to share a very, very recent (but also really cool) adventure I just partook in. Technically still am, actually. ANYWAY
-----
There I was, dorking around on a frozen moon for a few hours, gathering resources to keep my dingy little rover and space fighter running while taking out illegal salvaging drones to steal their ill-gotten goods. It wasn't too long before I amassed a few thousand credits worth of stuff off 'em so I finally went to the nearby space station to exchange goods and grab a simple job to give me a good reason to move to another star system - and amass more cash. There's never enough credits in the galaxy, let me tell you...
Anywho, it turned out a local pirate lord needed killing, so I went off to handle business.
My starship, a Vulture-class fighter, was more than capable of handling simple brigands, especially one who was purportedly alone and orbiting a nearby moon. However, as my luck would have it, one of his lackeys heard I was coming... and rather than try directly interfering in my business, offered me waaay more money to take out the informant who alerted the authorities to the pirate lord's position.
It was a troubling choice... but, one offered significantly more credits. So, me, being a humble, heartless mercenary, decided some extra cash was worth the target change and sped off in that direction.
I soon found the informant in orbit around some moon, chatting it up with a space cop. The cop seems to be forcing some information out of him, so I casually intervene and start spewing lasers into the informant. He whines that he's been 'forced into this,' he 'had no choice,' and before I vaporize him and his ship he tells me that 'they' will come for me next.
Buuuut I was way too busy hyperspacing out of there as more cops swarmed in to notice all that until afterwards. So now I'm wanted in, like, three different systems and a plethora of bounty hunters have been chasing me while I take out actual pirate lords.
This is going to get interesting.

And hopefully I'm not the only one who's experienced little events like this. Anybody else got a tale from the stars? Or a far less 'in-character' comment on the game's features such as these random missions? :P
