They say that the Man Upstairs was hitting the whiskey pretty hard when he laid out the Ghost River Triangle.
You've been stuck in this no horse town long enough to buy it. Hell, you're almost willing to buy into those curses the saloon keeper talks about. Hard not to think that somebody up there has it out for every poor bastard here when you see that treacherous river cutting through the Skitterhawk Plains and the Brock Rocks, or when you witness how it carves up the Dead Rose Forest. Even those stories about a secret place where it flows right up to the snowy peaks of Snake's Foot Mountain don't seem too far fetched anymore.
And as for Purgatory itself? Well, it was probably a lot nicer once. Then the old mines collapses, the railroad got diverted, and the world mostly forgot about this place. Folks still here, they're either too stubborn to move on, or ain't got the luck to make it out of here. You were in the latter - a stranger whose long trail of bad luck landed you in a place you couldn't get out of, no matter how hard you tried. Seemed like fortune just had it in for you... until you met him.
It's hard to read Lucas. Something about him just makes you stop questioning why such a fine-dressed man is wandering this poor slice of America - though even then, you had to question why he offered you a job. Smile of his, that ever fine smile, was tight-lipped - all he'd tell you is that he needs some 'rightful wild cards' to 'settle up a little game'. Real strange talk, but the pay he offered... well, for that kind of dinero, you could put up with some cryptic man's ramble. He even paid up front - partly. Not quite enough to buy your way out of Purgatory. You'd almost think he planned it that way.
But you can trust the fella, right?

Welcome to Grant's second attempt at DMing, hopefully to go better than the last. The Good, The Bad, and The Eldritch is, as you might guess, a Weird West style of RP where cowpoke tales brush against supernatural mysteries. Set in 1870 in a microcosm of cowboy tropes, this RP will follow a misfit group of Old West Wanderers stuck for various reasons in a nowheresville old town, as a mysterious man ropes them into strange and frightful happenings and high-tooting adventure in equal measure.
This is going to be running on Roll20, and will be using the Savage Worlds system. Module-wise, the main book being drawn upon is Deadlands Reloaded (found here), with the caveat that the regular Deadlands setting has been ditched in favor of a 'real world' setup. History is the same here as it was in our world, and none of the PCs are aware of the supernatural as an active thing. As such, you won't be able to start with abilities or gear of a supernatural nature, but this will definitely be a thing that can change over the campaign. I'm open to characters having an Arcane Background at the beginning, or 'powers' that can be explained as unusually strong human ability, but this is going to need review on a case by case basis.
Currently, I'm planning to run this after New Year's, most likely on weekends. Saturday morning/early afternoon is the strongest contender, but this is subject to change and will depend on the availability of who joins. In the meantime, I may also want to run a session or two as quick testing of Roll20 setups, and to get a gauge for how the characters interact; they'll also give you all an opportunity to experiment and tweak with your builds before we get started properly.
As a final note, the tone of this RP will veer towards morbid humor. Some dark stuff, because supernatural, but plenty of levity and an importance placed on fun over drama and darkness. Characters who have a bit of absurdity to them are encouraged, but they're also expected to be human. The weird shit doesn't start until we get further in, after all.
